WUT Program for Sale!
This popped up in the Google Reader alert for "Wisconsin Union Theater":
An Ebay listing of a WUT program from 1944, starting bid at $3.99!
Here is the link | Ebay |
I'm sure we have extras of these just hanging around in our archives somewhere. It's funny that people can make a buck off of one piece of historic memorabilia. Considering the amount of archived material we have here at the theater, we must be swimming in priceless items! Maybe we can sell some on Ebay like this seller and use the money toward the new building? :)
Look at the other WUT items on sale on Ebay! This is so bizarre!

Attention All Artists!
The Madison World Music Fest T-Shirt Contest is Back!
We are now accepting designs for the 7th Annual Madison World Music Festival 2010 tee shirt! This three-day jam-packed FREE music scene starts on September 23 and goes through the 25th at the Memorial Union Terrace. We've already booked several great acts and just released one of them in our latest e-newsletter. Outgoing World Stage AD Ben Willis will be reviewing over the submissions. Send your artwork to Ben at bdwillis@wisc.edu. Deadline is July 31st.
DailyPage Blurb | More Info in our July Newsletter
Usually, once we receive all entries, we showcase them to the staff in our offices and take a vote. Last year, when everyone and their mom took social media by storm, we also incorporated an online voting option on our Facebook page. Perhaps we'll do that again?
Last year's design won by a landslide with "Likes" on Facebook and we even had a button design to complement. Check out MWMF 2009's design for a little inspiration, distributed and worn by WUT staff, committee members, and volunteers all around the festival!

La Fête de Marquette!
We here at the Wisconsin Union Theater never stop working. Even though the Isthmus Jazz Fest was just barely a month ago, we are already beginning to go full force into promoting our new 2010-2011 season. We'll have a table set up at this weekend's La Fête de Marquette, which began on Thursday and runs through July 11. It's over on the East Side and if you drop by, you might find a little something special to celebrate our new season with us! Pick up our season brochure, check out our new posters, and chat with one of our staff or committee members who will be there.
This fifth annual local festival, sponsored by The Willy Street Co-Op, features some of our own past season artists: Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue (08-09 season), Dobet Gnahore (08-09 season) and the Red Stick Ramblers (09-10 season)! If you missed them, don't miss them again. They're back for another piece of Madison during this beautiful summer weekend.
Tomorrow, 08-09 season alum, Dobet Gnahore hits the stage at 9:30.
On Sunday, you'll find the Red Stick Ramblers twice, at 9 under the tent and at 3:15 on the stage.
And finally, to end a long weekend of arts and music, you can say farewell to a magical night with Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue at 7:30.
Also, before I forget... I was flipping through the paper and saw a listing for another past theater performer and I was ecstatic to have read that they were back in Madison! They joined us at last year's Madison World Music Festival, paraded in, and are now back for a solo show at the Annex on Regent Street. I saw these guys live at the fest, LOVED THEM and had to buy one of their CDs on the spot. It has to go in that order though: listen live, dance a little...or even A LOT, fall in love, buy CD. It wouldn't work any other way. Blowin' up your saris on July 13, Red Baraat is back!
When: July 13th, 9pm
Where: The Annex, 1209 Regent St.
Cover: $5
